A remote creative team

MADE BY MAKERS.

We started with ink, paper and ideas. The tools keep changing. Our curiosity hasn’t.

MICHELLE BEAUDRY + RIKA HEYWOOD
CREATIVE PARTNERS

Two paths.
One practice.

Heywood & Beaudry brings storytelling, art direction and design together with the tools to build what we imagine.

We’re a remote creative team based in Vancouver, working with clients wherever good ideas take us. Our backgrounds are different, but we share a belief that every detail should serve the story, from the first sketch to the final experience.

FROM THE NEWSPAPER FLOOR TO WHAT’S NEXT
INK. CODE. IDEAS.
THE MEDIUM CHANGES. THE VISION MOVES FORWARD.

“Give me an idea that feels impossible. That’s where things get interesting.”

I started making things when design meant ink, paper, hand-drawn typography and mixing our own Pantone colours. Then the computers arrived. I embraced the new tools and kept following my curiosity wherever it led: fashion, teaching, magazine art direction, branding and digital experiences.

What I love most is finding the soul of an idea. Taking a feeling or a half-formed vision, discovering the story inside it and making it something people can see, understand and connect with.

And I've always loved the challenge of figuring out how to make something I've never made before.

Now the tools are changing again. With AI and emerging technology, I can take a creative vision further than ever, from a brand and campaign to a website, an application or something that didn't exist before.

It feels like coming full circle. Back to being a maker, with more creative freedom, endless possibilities and fewer limits between imagining something and bringing it to life.

DESIGN IS A WAY OF SEEING
FORM. INK. WAVE.
BALANCE · COMPOSITION · CHARACTER

For Rika, the most interesting idea is usually the one beneath the obvious.

Rika begins with pencil, paper and questions. His oversized sketchpads fill with words, shapes and possibilities as he looks past what a brand does to discover what it means.

The result isn’t simply a recognizable symbol; it’s a visual idea with a story and a reason behind every decision.

An artist at heart, he brings the same attention to form, typography, composition and character to commercial design as he does to his own fine art.

He also shares that practice with emerging creatives through teaching at the University of the Fraser Valley and summer teaching at Emily Carr.

His analog, exploratory approach complements Michelle’s appetite for new tools. Different processes, the same commitment to creating work that feels thoughtful, original and unmistakably human.

OUR SHARED POINT OF VIEW

THE TOOLS
CHANGE.
WE MAKE.

We know the care it takes to make something by hand. We also know what becomes possible when a new tool opens a door.

That’s how we work together: start with the idea, find its most compelling story and choose the right way to bring it into the world.

Sometimes that’s a brand or campaign. Sometimes it’s a website, an integrated experience or a tool that makes a team’s work easier.

What matters is that it feels clear, useful and unmistakably human.
